The Ginkgo tree is thought to come originally from China and it is used in many herbal remedies to treat bad memory. It's called a living fossil because fossils of ginco leaves are quite common.
The Ginco tree usually grows 20-30m high with some specimens in China being as high as 50m with leaves 5-10cm long.

The Ginco is often found in temple gardens of Buddhist and Confucianist temples and some planted trees in China is believed to be over 1500 years old. It is only found wild in two small areas of the Zhejiang province of eastern China but can be found naturalized in many places near cultivated trees.
Ginkgo leaf extract is a commonly sold herbal remedy used to cure bad memory, dementia and tinnitus. The ginco is also part of traditional Chinese medicine and is believed to have aphrodisiac qualities.
Side effects of using ginkgo medications are usually mild but it is best to consult with a knowledgable physician if you also take other medicines or herbal supplements.
