In the Zhejiang province in eastern China grows what many believe is the last natural occurance of the Ginkgo tree.

The Ginkgo with it's odd leaves and fruits, an age of up to 3000 years and in some instances a length of up to 50 meters (164 feet) can be considered the odd three of the world.

While the Ginkgo is not found in the wild it has been planted in gardens and cities throughout the world as a decorative plant. It's realtively hardy and can easily withstand a nothern city climate both in the US and in Europe.

Where Does The Ginkgo Tree Grow?

Only in the Zhejiang province in eastern China, in the Tianmu Shan mountain reserve has the tree been spotted in the wild. And even this is disputed with claims that the trees were planted by monks long ago.

Cultivated Gingko Tree is most commonly found in Chine with the majority growing in the the southern parts of the country.

In North America the Ginkgo has been grown for over 200 year but has not spread much into the wild.

In Europe, Japan, Korea and the USA the Ginkgo Tree is extensively farmed as raw material for herbal supplements. [2]
